Event Sponsor Spotlight: The Flower Bazaar

The Flower Bazaar, located on 5th Street in South Beach between Michigan and Jefferson, opened in 1994 in its current location. The once tiny design studio continued to transform over the years, and in 2011, a French interior designer and decorative painter, Thierry Adam, took over the company.

Since then, it has delivered a sophisticated, cosmopolitan flair to all their events and customers. ImageThe Flower Bazaar sources flowers constantly from the most trusted and reliable sources all over the world. That in turn allows them to deliver emotion and exquisite design to the events and weddings they design, and to the manifestations of affection that are entrusted to their designers every day. Their philosophy is simple, “to be the best, offer exceptional product and create beautiful floral gifts that convey originality and artistic design.” Image

Along with recently hosting a “Coffee with the Chamber,” The Flower Bazaar will soon be celebrating 20 years in Miami Beach, and they are gearing up for “additional growth with new personnel additions in the marketing and sales area, dedicated to commercial and hospitality services,” says partner, Leonardo Lanaro.

Visit them at 920 5th Street Miami Beach and check out their website www.theflowerbazaar.com

Letter from the Chairman February 14, 2012

The Forbes and Bloomberg Business-week lists are great sources, but for me, some of the greatest business inspirations come from our very own backyard. This was recently evident during the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Champions of Business Award luncheon. Here at the Chamber, we’ll all about hard work, but also recognition of the accomplishments reaped from that hard work. This year’s awardees included:

* Aletha Player, of FPL, who received the annual James McDonnell Outstanding Board of Governor Award

*  Warren Zinn, Owner of Warren Henry Auto Group, who received Aaron B. Perry Innovation in Business Award

*  The Shockett Family, who accepted the Past Chair Award in recognition of William “Billy” Shockett, Past Chairman of the Chamber Board from ’82-’83.

Furthermore, the Chamber introduced the first annual 2012 Warren Henry Small Business of the Year Award in honor of a business owner who has grown his/her company over the years, while maintaining an ever-important strong presence in giving back to the community. Carefully selected by our Chairman’s Circle, this year’s winner was Brian Scheinblum, the Co-founder and President of Cambean Hospitality. As owner of the Carlton, Clifton, Majestic, and Lords South Beach at Nash hotels, Brian’s work through Cambean is so important in helping to maintain the glamour and attraction of our Art Deco District for tourists and Miamians alike.

In true Chamber fashion, the sold-out event demonstrated our utmost support for these exceptional individuals. In addition, Past Chairmen Aaron B. Perry, Alan Randolph, Michael Milberg, Gerald Schwartz, Ira Giller, Anthony ”Tony” Noboa, Bart S. Golberg, Leon A. Manne, and Lucia Dougherty, along with Past President and CEO of the Chamber, Bruce Singer, were all in attendance to further champion the organization they helped build.

It is a privilege to have such strong leaders not only within our community, but within the Chamber family. We have much to learn from them and I pledge Chamber support to help them – and you – further expand their/your businesses within Miami and beyond. Congratulations and well-deserved!

At your service,

Jason Loeb

Letter from the Chairman- January 11, 2012

I’ve called Miami Beach home since I was a kid, but we natives are rare. In my opinion, Miami’s diversity is what makes it the “Magic City”. Global business is the new norm, but we’ve always been an international player. That’s why I was so pleased to hear the latest report from the U.S. Travel Association highlighting recent victories in streamlining passenger visa, entry and screening processes.

This news represents the power of organization. Our very own Chamber can take pride and some ownership, as we, along with our sister chambers, have been lobbying passionately to make these changes happen. Starting this year, the State Department will step up its visa reform program, which will include reducing visa processing times in China, Brazil and India; monitoring demand from these countries and responding accordingly; accessing the benefits of waiving lengthy interviews for select parties reapplying for their visas; and pursuing technologies that will further help expedite the entire process.

The new funding and provisions also call for streamlining passenger processing at U.S. Ports of Entry. Additional Custom and Border Protection officers and staff model analysis will ensure that these ports are appropriately and efficiently manned; the transition to a biographic air exit system will more accurately verify and track foreign nationals; and a pilot program will hopefully soon lead to the elimination of duplicate screening for both passengers and baggage. Further travel recommendations aim to implement a Pre-Check risk-based screening program, provide airports the option to utilize privatized screeners, and reach the goal to keep checkpoint wait times to a 10-minute average.

This is a national feat, and a huge milestone for Miami. As a major business hub for South America, Brazil has and remains to be a crucial market for us. Yet, China and India represent a new wave of economic giants also steering the global business arena. It’s no secret that Miami is a desirable destination in which to conduct business. Why shouldn’t we make it easy for our international allies?

Jason Loeb, Chairman

Letter from the Chairman-December 29th, 2011

2011 was a momentous year for the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. We successfully installed many new initiatives and experienced incredible growth in both membership and monies raised to support our visions. However, as fun as it is to reflect on past accomplishments, the New Year is about looking ahead. Now is the perfect time to craft your personal and professional plans that will take you and your business to an even greater level.

Once everything is in place internally, it’s time to start letting people know about your business externally. The power of connections are amazing – I attribute nearly all my new clients to relationship building. While many people understand the importance of networking, a majority don’t do it very well, equating it to event attendance and handing out business cards to as many people as possible. While reach is certainly important, I can’t stress enough that success is in the quality of these relationship. First, look at your network and determine if you are getting anything out of it. If not, you need to determine whether it is the network itself or if it’s a matter of you and your own involvement. Sometimes the relationship simply isn’t a fit – and that’s ok, just gently sever your ties and find an organization that you can identify with. If it’s the latter, remember that any good relationship is reciprocal. It’s about instilling goodwill on behalf of your clients and enjoying the benefits of their goodwill in return. People like doing business with others that they like and trust. But you can’t find and determine who these valuable contacts are by simply handing out your business card with a one-liner about what you do. Active involvement with an organization allows you to really get to know the people within. Getting involved is easy – find an aspect that engages you. The Miami Beach Chamber has 13 councils covering a range of business sectors and niches from tourism, to global business, to emerging leadership, to arts & culture and beyond. Every one of these sub-committees presents a perfect opportunity to not only connect with fellow members, but develop a relationship and a better understanding of their respective strengths and goals, thereby putting you in a stronger position to effectively help one another. This is the spirit of our Chamber.

On behalf of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, we wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2012. I believe; however, that each of these joys are magnified with a strong support system and I look forward to working together.

Jason Loeb

Chairman

Letter from the Chairman-December 14, 2011

When conducting business, Miami Beach certainly gives us a lot to work with. We have incredible diversity, booming tourism and great minds, all anchored by our famous sun, fun and sand. But now it’s time for the Chamber to get cultured. I’m excited to report that we have added an arts & culture committee to promote and enhance our artistic offerings even further.

This new committee is a natural and important expansion in positioning Miami Beach as a truly well-rounded destination. For decades, the world’s most influential artists have sought out the city to serve as the backdrop in which to pursue their projects. The very development of Miami Beach is rooted in art with its unique Art Deco skyline. Today, we’re coming off our tenth year of Art Basel Miami Beach; the New World Symphony moved into a breathtaking new home; and our museums, dance companies, music groups and individual artists are capturing international attention.

The economic forces of these arts programs are huge and every business can benefit in some way. The Arts & Culture Committee will not only seek out new opportunities to bring in additional artistic programs, people and initiatives, but also to connect companies to the movement. Leading the group is the ultimate trifecta: Brian Schriner, Dean of the College of Architecture + The Arts at Florida International University; Judy Holm, founder of Aspirations public relations and marketing firm and master in promoting the arts; and Alan Randolph, Senior Vice President of City National Bank, who has experience banking the film, fashion and entertainment industries. Each of these arts advocates have already contributed so much the sector – and their combined passion and extensive contact lists promise to be an even greater force in evolving our arts scene to an arts capital. I encourage my fellow Chamber members to join this budding committee in support of creating a beautiful and refined community of deep cultural and economic impact.

At your service,

Jason Loeb
